A man has been assaulted after his car was damaged in Slough. Four or five men got out of a BMW and kicked the victim's Vauxhall at the traffic lights in Tuns Lane. The man, in his mid fifties was then punched in the face. He also suffered cuts to his hand from a broken glass window. Police are investigating and appealing for witnesses.

Vehicle crime is increasing in Twyford and across Wokingham. Between February this year and last, 848 cars were broken into. That is up 16 per cent on the previous 12 month period. Drivers in Twyford are being told to make life tough for opportunitst criminals. Police have issued some simple crime prevention tips that include making sure you park in a well lit area and not leaving valuable items on display.

A High Wycombe benefits cheat has been fined. Julia Greenacre received more than £6,000 in housing and council tax benefits she was not entitled to. She failed to tell the council about her two ISA accounts and support payments.

A man has been jailed for 14 years for attempting to murder his ex-partner in Flackwell Heath. Mark Maurice Messenger broke into the family home and slashed Jayne Andrew’s wrist with a razor blade before attempting to strangle her with a bathroom cord, in September 2009. The court heard how Maurice had a history of violence and drug abuse.

A man charged with murdering Virnderpal Singh in Slough is due to appear before Reading Crown Court today. The 20 year old's body was found near his home in Canterbury Avenue in April last year. Manpreet Singh Chahal was due in court last Monday but the case was put back.

Councillors have been told to approve plans to turn a Slough Tennis Centre into a bowling alley. Tonight, they will make a decision about the future of the Centre in Salt Hill Park. Under plans, the indoor courts would go to make way for a 18 lane ten pin bowling alley. Two new indoor tennis courts would be created at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre.

51 drivers have been caught speeding in Windsor and Maidenhead. The checks took place on Ray Mead Road, Sheephouse Road and Imperial Road, with officers at each location for around an hour. Some motorists were caught doing 52 in a 30 zone.

A Maidenhead woman has died after she was hit by a car in Reading. The collision happened on Forbury Road. The 63 year old was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating and appealing for witnesses.

The government could face daily fines after allowing air pollution at Heathrow to breach European limits. That is the warning from the 2M group which is made up of local authorities opposed to expansion. It says the government has taken no action to improve air quality despite admitting that nitrogen levels around the airport were above permitted levels. Cllr David Burbage, leader of the council and the Royal Borough's representative on the 2M Group said: “Ministers have got themselves into a right muddle. They know they are breaking EU law and damaging the health of UK citizens yet they are still hell-bent on building a third runway. If they can’t come up with an answer on how they can meet the EU limits without a third runway, what hope is there when they’ve added an extra 125,000 flights.”

Two men have been found guilting of raping a man in Cippenham. The victim was badly beaten before his ordeal ended in the Mercian Recreation Park. The defendants - 21 year old Jamie Cunningham and 21 year old Jai Birmingham - were convicted by a jury at Reading Crown Court. The pair are due to be sentenced in March. A teenage girl was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm but cleared of two other charges.

The GMB union claims as many as 250 jobs could be axed at hospitals in Ascot and Slough. The Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals Trust has warned job losses are necessary to drive down costs. The GMB Union believes clerical rather than medical posts will be cut. The Trust insists no final decision on job losses has been made.

Police have released an E fit image of man they want to trace in connection with a distraction burglary in High Wycombe. The offender told his victim he was a police officer to gain entry to the property in Hatters Lane. He then stole her purse from her handbag.

A lorry driver, whose vehicle contained 8 suspected illegal immigrants has been bailed after he was arrested on suspicious of immigration offences. The six women and two men were spotted by a police officer at the Twin Bridges roundabout in Bracknell. They are being held at a detention centre.

The Royal Borough has welcomed government moves to enable motorists who fall victim to wheel clampers to seek compensation. Drivers would be able to take their cases to independent tribunals which will have the power to force firms to pay back unfair fines or towing charges as well as awarding compensation.

Nine people have been released on police bail after a taxi driver was attacked during a 'vicious' robbery in Slough. The victim was punched and kicked in Cardigan Close before his Sat Nav, mobile phone and cars keys were stolen, during the early hours of 31 January. Six males aged between 16 and 20 and three females aged between 17 and 18 have been bailed to various dates in March pending further enquiries.

Hillingdon could get three new polyclinics under plans unveiled by the NHS. The polyclinics are described as a 'one size fits all' doctors surgery. They are open 12 hours a day and have dental surgeries as well as facilities for taking X-rays and blood tests. The HESA health centre in Station Road in Hayes could be expanded to become a polyclinic. The other two would be based at Northwood and Uxbridge.

Bracknell MP Andrew Mackay has been ordered to pay back more than £30,000 to the public purse. It follows Sir Thomas Legg's review into the parliamentary expenses scandal. He has decided that Andrew Mackay wrongly claimed mortgage payments on a London flat he designated as his second home. His party leader, David Cameron hopes it is the beginning of the end of a "dreadful chapter".

Police no longer want to trace a Maidenhead man. Ben Layton was arrested after a tip off from the public, that he was staying at a house in Chalvey. The 27 year old climbed onto the roof of the property before he was detained by officers. Layton has been recalled to prison.

Three men have denied being involved in a brutal attack at a Maidenhead petrol garage. It is alleged the 24 year old man was repeatedly kicked and punched in the head at the Murco petrol station in Cookham Road in September last year. The trio appeared before Maidenhead Magistrates this morning and denied charges of GBH. The defendants are due back in court in March. They have been granted unconditional bail.

A Maidenhead woman is on a mission to resurrect comedy in the town. The Magnet Leisure Centre used to attract the big names like Jo Brand and Lee Evans. But recently the venue has struggled to persuade the next generation of comedy stars to perform there. Police are stepping up patrols in Iver at weekends to tackle anti social behaviour in the area. There will be a visible presence on foot and by bike, at alleyways and other areas where nuisance behaviour has been reported. Nearly a thousand East Berkshire women and children could be getting their five a day for free. The government funded Healthy Start scheme is aimed at low income families and pregnant under 18 year olds. On Monday 8th February the ‘Healthy Start’ roadshow will visit Slough as part of a tour across England. A fun and interactive Healthy Start zone will be in Queensmere Shopping Centre between 9am and 5.30pm. If women apply for the scheme as soon as they are 10 weeks pregnant, they could get up to £93 in vouchers during their pregnancy. For a baby’s first year they could receive up to £322 in vouchers and children over one and under four years old could get more than £161 in vouchers for each full year they are on the scheme.

People living next to the M40 could be in for a quieter future. A project to reduce noise on stretches of the motorway has been shortlisted by the Local Government Association. It would involve improving sound barriers and implementing speed restrictions between junctions three and eight. The Stop Loan Sharks project is coming to Surrey this week. Nationally, the scheme has so far helped more than 10,000 victims write off more than £30,000,000 of illegal debt. A government funded team will work with the council to investigate and prosecute loan sharks across the county for illegal money lending and related criminal offences, raise awareness about the dangers of going to loan sharks and help vulnerable people access proper financial services and support.

A 23 year old man has died after his car crashed into a bus in High Wycombe. The black Alfa Romeo collided with the single decker vehicle in Lancaster Road, this morning. The bus driver was airlifted to hospital. Four passengers on the bus at the time were uninjured.

A taxi driver has been punched and kicked by a gang of 10 people during a robbery in Slough. The victim was assaulted in Cardigan Close before his Sat Nav, mobile phone and car keys were stolen. He has since been transferred to an eye specialist in London, where he remains in a stable condition. The offenders, women and men, aged in their late teens and different race made off through the nearby trading estate. Det Insp Andy Shearwood told Time 106.6: "This was a particularly vicious robbery, however I would like to reassure residents there are ongoing enquiries and further arrests are taking place at this time". Six people have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in custody at Slough and Maidenhead police stations.

The emergency services have been taking part in a major training exercise in Windsor. In the scenario, terrorists had taken control of a boat next to the Racecourse. It was loaded with fake Anthrax and Sarin. Sergeant Andy Watson says it is important for officers to be thinking about events like this. During the exercise, officers searched the ground opposite the grand stand for traces of the chemical/biological agents. Two 10 year old boys accused of raping a girl in Hayes have appeared before Uxbridge Magistrates. The boys have been released on condition bail, and are not allowed to go to certain places without their parents. The 10 year olds will appear before the Crown Court for a plea and direction hearing next month.

The future of the Minor Injuries Unit at St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead is to be finalised in March. Health bosses say the cost of operating the MIU in its current form is too expensive. Chairman of NHS Berkshire East Sally Kemp told Time 106.6 an alternative has now been put forward that is attractive and involves an out of hours GP service provider.

Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery in High Wycombe. It happened outside Priestwood House. A security guard was delivering money to a bank, when the offender threatened him and stole his cash box. The man then ran off on foot along Corporation Street. Investigating Officer, Det Insp Kev Mahon, said: “There were a few people around at this time in the morning who might have seen the man running away from the scene. He might have been in the area before the robbery happened, or later been seen getting into a vehicle which could have been parked nearby and I am asking anyone who has any information, no matter how insignificant they believe it to be, to get in touch."

Firefighters have spent three hours tackling a Slough house fire. The blaze took hold of a derelict property in Lynford Avenue. The property was boarded up - making it more difficult for firefighters to gain entry. It is unclear how the fire started.

The future of the Minor Injuries Unit at St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead remains in doubt. To the relief of campaigners health bosses have decided to keep the Unit open until the end of March. But they are looking for a more cost effective way of delivering a minor injuries service. One of the consequences of this could be the closure of fracture services at St Marks Hospital.

A Slough man has been fined over £4000 by Magistrates for playing excessively loud music from his home. The noise became so bad at Nathan Moore's home, the council had to call in the police to seize stereos, sky boxes, DVD players, speakers and amplifiers. Environmental Health Officer Claire Braiden is pleased with the outcome.

Two Slough people have been charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs. It is after police carried out raids in Furnival Avenue and Beechwood Gardens. Three kilograms of heroin was also seized from a car on the M4 as part of the investigation.

A man has been charged after a pedestrian was knocked down by a vehicle that mounted the pavement in High Wycombe. The 59 year old victim suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition. 23 year old Noal Christopher Ward from Essex is due to appear before Wycombe Magistrates Court today.

A company has been fined £90,000 after a Hayes man was crushed to death at Heathrow Airport. Mohammed Taj was killed by a baggage vehicle as he was trying to fix it from below. Health and Safety Inspector Stephen Kirton told Time 106.6: ""Mr Taj’s tragic death could have been avoided if axle stands were routinely carried in the company maintenance van and were used by staff. Mr Taj could be alive today if just £30 had been spent on a pair of axle stands."

Police are investigating after a vehicle mounted the pavement and hit a pedestrian in High Wycombe. It happened on Park Street in Rye. The victim was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital for treatment for a fratured ankle. The vehicle involved in the collision is believed to be a dark-coloured.

Police want to speak to a taxi driver who helped a woman who was being assaulted in High Wycombe. The driver stopped and shouted at the attackers in the area of Desborough Road. He then took the victim to Wycombe General Hospital for treatment.

More clinics are being set up across East Berkshire to vaccinate young women against cervical cancer. Nearly 200 teenagers aged between 12 - 18 were given the jab at clinics in Slough, Bracknell and Windsor, last month. Maidenhead's Heritage Centre and Museum is searching for Second World War female pilots. The centre is setting up the country's only dedicated Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) research centre and exhibition. Three Chinese men have been jailed for a total of nearly six years for cannabis production in Maidenhead. The processing facility was discovered above the Ladbrookes betting shop after reports of a strong smell of cannabis, in June last year. Two of the convicted men tried to escape by climbing out of a flat window but fell to the ground. During a search, officers found piles of cannabis plants in the hallway, bedroom and bathroom.

Police are investigating after a robbery at a Windsor shop. Two men entered Berkshire Food and Wine before stealing money and cigarettes. They ran off in the direction of King Edward VII Hospital. Both of the men are white. One is aged between 20 and 25, about 6ft or taller and has dark hair. He was scruffy and wore a hooded jumper. The other man is about 23 or 24, approximately 5ft 5ins and of medium build. He has black hair and was wearing a blue and white striped towel wrapped around his face and head and a blue striped long-sleeve shirt.

The number of dogs being abandoned in Slough is on the rise. Five have been found with injuries, in a malnourished condition or suffering from disease since the start of the year. Slough's Animal warden Jackie Singer is digusted with the amount of dogs let down by the owners.

CCTV vandals have struck again in Slough. This time a device outside the Wentworth Avenue shops on the Britwell Estates been attacked. It comes just weeks after CCTV cameras were vandalised in Manor Park and Farnham Road.

Two men have tried to rob a post office in Bracknell. The offenders armed with a knife and a sledgehammer threatened the shopkeeper in Wildridings Square. They attempted to break into a safe and a cash machine, without success and left empty handed. The shopkeeper sustained cuts to his hand during the robbery.

Stoke Poges School has been forced to close tomorrow due to the "ineptitude" of their heating oil suppliers. They failed make a delivery over the weekend and at 12:00noon today the school ran out of oil. Headteacher Malcolm Bridges told Time 106.6: " The heating has now gone off. As the temperature will inevitably drop tonight and there will be no way of raising the temperature in school. Health and safety demands a minimum temperature within the building and I'm sure you would not want your child sitting in class in extremely cold conditions."

Sir Cliff Richard will have to demolish a conservatory at his Virginia Water home. The Planning Inspectorate has upheld Runnymede council's decision to refuse retrospective permission for the structure built at his home on the Wentworth Estate in November 2006. It means 68-year-old Sir Cliff must demolish his conservatory by Tuesday March 9.

Opposition is growing to plans to replace a Slough tennis centre with a bowling alley. Slough Community Leisure wants to turn the Salt Hill Tennis Centre into an 18 lane ten pin bowling alley. But a Britwell GP believes it could harm efforts to tackle obesity in the town. He has revealed 11% of his patients are obese and says the lack of sports facilities is a contributing factor. Council chiefs have promised to invest in new outdoor courts and say the Salt Hill facility is losing over £30,000 a year.

A man has appeared in court accused of being drunk on board a plane at Heathrow Airport. 48 year old Alexander McGinn was taken off the flight to Dubai earlier this month. He was arrested alongside another man who is charged with making a hoax bomb threat. They are both back in court next month.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man exposed himself in a Staines Store. The victim was shopping in WH Smith when she was confronted by the offender. The suspect did not speak or touch the victim. The offender is described as being a white male with cropped black hair which was greying; around 5ft 4ins tall, around 50 years old and was clean shaven.

£2,300,000 is to be spent on getting Surrey youngsters back into work. The County Council will oversea the creation of 350 jobs, for people between the ages of 18 and 24, in unemployment hotspots. 33 bikes have been stolen from a Hayes BMX club. Officers made the discovery at the Lake Farm Country Park, while on patrol. Four people have been charged and six others have been arrested after two seperate town centre robberies in Bracknell. Four teenagers were walking in Princess Square when they were allegedly assaulted and robbed. A teenager was punched in the face several times in Dukeshill Road in Garth before a gang of about 15 youths stole mobile phones and cash. Four teenagers charged with robbery will appear before Reading Crown Court in March. Six other teenagers have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

It is that time of year again. Parents in the Royal Borough are being encouraged to have their say about school admission arrangements for the next academic year. The consulation covers a shake up of "in-year" applications, those made outside normal transfer times. 1. Until now, parents requesting school places at times other than at normal transfer times have applied directly to their preferred primary school. For places from September 2010 these applications will be made through the local authority responsible for the preferred school. 2. In addition, from September 2011 parents will have to apply to the local authority to whom they pay council tax – even if the school is in another authority. A Staines man has been jailed for 10 weeks and fined more than £3,000 for perverting the course of justice. 28 year old Brian Matthews crashed his silver Aston Martin into a lampost but told police his car had been stolen. Matthews was caught out when officers found his hairs in a cracked rear view mirror. Detective Constable Dave Thomas, who led the investigation, hopes the sentence sends out a strong message.

They have been suspended in the Royal Borough. Today's remaining waste collections will be done on Thursday. Thursday's collections will be done on Friday. Friday's collections will be done on Saturday. Meanwhile, in Slough only major roads are being gritted due to a national shortage of salt supplies. On the travel front, train, bus and air services continue to suffer delays or cancellations.

Police are investigating after the body of man was found in Denham. Officers made the discovery by the side of the M40 at junction 1. The death is being treated as unexplained, pending a post mortem. No formal identification has taken place yet.

Plans for the regeneration of Maidenhead have taken a major step forward. A new masterplan sets out six areas in the town for re-development. The aim is to make Maidenhead a destination for shopping, business and leisure. Chairman of PROM Bob Dulson wants people to have their say. The consultation starts on 14 January until 17 February. Nominate a neighbour. The idea behind a scheme to reduce the number of distraction burglaries in Slough. Residents are encouraged to show a ‘nominated neighbour’ card to unexpected callers, rather than enter into conversation. The card directs the caller to a nominated neighbour who will verify the person’s identity. When the nominated neighbour is satisfied that the caller is genuine, they accompany the caller to the resident’s home.

The big freeze has postponed paving repairs in Windsor. Work was due to start on a section from the top of Peascod Street to the junction with Oxford Road and William Street. However the council has told Time 106.6 repairs are still on course to be completed before Easter. The Royal Borough is working with contractors Balfour Beatty to keep disruption down to a minimum.

Three people have been charged in connection with a serious assault on a man in Maidenhead. It happened outside the Murco petrol station in Cookham Road. The victim got involved in a dispute with a group of people. He was then kicked and punched in the face. The trio have been bailed to appear at Magistrates next month.

He designed the Hawker Hurricane that allowed Britain to win the Second World War. The Sir Sydney Camm Society need £60,000 by August 2011, to build a replica of the aircraft, in Alexandra Gardens.

A man with connections to Bracknell has failed to return to a Suffolk prison. 30 year old Taz Bashir went missing after he was given a temporary day's leave. He is currently serving 8 years for aggravated burglary, robbery and stealing a car. Bashir is described as of Asian appearance, 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build, with short brown hair, he also has a scar on his right cheek. Anyone who may have seen him, or who may have information about where he is now, should call Suffolk Police on 01473 613500 or contact their nearest police station.

BIN AND RECYCLING COLLECTIONS: Refuse and recycling crews have gone out this morning to empty bins wherever it is practical and safe for them to work. The council is still working to it's refuse and recycling collection dates for the holiday period. It has told Time 106.6 from Monday a normal collection service is likely to resume. GRITTING: The gritting teams were out last night, treating both primary and secondary routes and have treated hotspots this morning. The council has sufficient gritting material to cope for this weekend.

The council is having to conserve it's salt stocks as the bad weather has lead to a national shortage of salt. People are being advised to make journeys only if they really have to. Police are hunting an attacker who assaulted a man in Langley. The victim was punched several times in the face as he was walking away from the town centre. He suffered a broken nose and deep bruising to his right eye. The offenders described as white, aged about 26. He was wearing blue jeans and a jumper.

BREAKING NEWS: A Slough sports fan has been found dead in a frozen lake at the BDO World Darts Championships in Surrey. The body of 45-year-old Philip Hughes was discovered in icy water at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green this morning. It is understood he had been staying at the complex to watch the championships. Surrey Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police are investigating after staff were threatened with a meat cleaver at a Slough supermarket. Two men, wearing scarves to cover their faces, entered the Co-op store in Scafell Road. Cigarrettes and the contents of the store's safe were taken during the raid. The offenders then left the Co-op and ran off in the direction if Northmead Road. They are described as 6ft and aged between 25 and 40.

Bracknell Forest Council have been gritting major roads ahead of predicted heavy snow tonight. The white stuff is forecast to fall around 6. The council has around 470 tonnes of salt left - more than enough to keep primary routes gritted for six days. Police have identified a man found dead in a Maidenhead hotel. Detectives were called to the Kingswood Hotel in Boyn Hill Avenue on News Years Day where they found the body of Shaun Biggs. A post mortem examination on the 21-year-old has proved inconclusive. Five people arrested in connection with the death have been released on police bail. Investigations continue.

An American pilot who has admitted trying to fly a plane out of Heathrow while drunk, could be jailed for up to two years. Captain Erwin Washington was reported to police by a colleague who smelled alcohol on his breath before the flight to Chicago took off. The 51-year-old, who works for United Airlines, was arrested in November shortly before the flight was due to depart.

A pensioner has died in hospital after he fell ill behind the wheel of his car in Englefield Green. The 74 year old's Honda then mounted a pavement off St Jude's Road on Saturday after he experienced breathing difficulties. He was taken to St Peter's Hospital for treatment where he later died. A major police operation to tackle burglary in East Berkshire and South Bucks has been extended. This after a £143,000 grant from the Home Office. Operation Breaker has lead to a 12 per cent drop in burglary since it started in July. The extra money will be used to tackle hot spot areas and target specific offenders until the end of January.

The East Berkshire Green Party wants to see 20 mile per hour speed limits in residential areas. Police are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of a Slough man who has been missing since Christmas Day. 29-year-old Nadim Malik was last seen at the psychiatric unit at Wexham Park Hospital. Mr Malik is Asian, 5ft 7ins and slim. He has brown eyes and short black curly hair. He was last seen wearing a black and white jacket, a blue and black coloured stripped T-shirt and dark trousers with black and white trainers. Mr Malik is known to frequent Slough town centre. The warning from the UK Border Agency, after 13 successful raids at Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead businesses this year. Fines totalling almost a £140,000 have been handed out. A Maidenhead restaurant was given a £25,000 penalty after five illegal staff were arrested. A recruitment agency in Slough was landed with a £15,000 penalty. Inspector Dick Stratton from the UK Border Agency told Time 106.6: “We now have the power to hand out big fines to employers who use illegal labour, and those who do so knowingly could even end up in prison".

Friendly Bombs have received the Big Lottery Grant to put on a production of Shakespeare's ‘The Tempest’, for people who are often unable to experience live theatre. A Slough carer has been sentenced to a total of 40 weeks in jail for betraying the trust of her disabled clients by stealing jewellery and fraudulently cashing a cheque. 29-year-old Catherine Dean from Lismore Park was working for a charity, when she was arrested last December following an investigation by Burnham CID. Det Con Tim Waterworth, the officer who led the investigation, said: “Ms Deans stole from some of the most vulnerable people in South Bucks and the court heard how she pawned jewellery belonging to two disabled clients, both women suffering from multiple sclerosis, and cashed a cheque for £275, which belonged to one of these victims. Some of the jewellery was of great sentimental value”.

Police are investigating after an armed robbery at a Burnham bookmakers. Two men wearing baraclavas entered Ladbrokes in the High Street. One of the offenders pointed what police believe to be a handgun at a member of staff and ordered him to open the safe. The men then made off with a large amout of cash. The first man is described as being 5ft 11ins to 6ft and slim. He was wearing a distinctive green and brown camouflage jacket, which finished between his waist and upper thigh. The second man, who stood at the counter during the robbery, was shorter and stockier and dressed in black.

A festive pantomime has been moved after a fire broke out at a Bracknell sports centre. Edgbarrow Sports Centre in Crowthorne is shut following the blaze in the boiler room near the reception area. The New Years Eve performance of Aladdin will now take place at Edgebarrow School Hall.

Three people have been reportedly rescued from their cars after they became trapped following a head-on collision in Windsor Great Park. The accident involving a Hyundai and a Volkswagen Passat happened on Sheet Street Road, which links Windsor with Ascot. The driver of the Hyundai suffered serious injuries and the married couple in the other car sustained minor injuries. Only a couple of weeks ago, a cyclist died on Sheet Street Road after being involved in a collision with a car.

A man has been charged in connection with a series of Slough armed robberies after he escaped from a Sussex prison. 33-year-old Nigel Carpenter is accused of five counts of robbery including raids at Ladbrokes Racing and Corals bookmakers in the town in December. Mr Carpenter has been remanded into prison until his next court appearance in March next year.

A teenager has been arrested after police raided a Bracknell cannabis factory. Officers found between 200 and 300 plants at the property in Great Hollands this morning. The 17 year old remains in police custody tonight. Insp Michael Squire, of Bracknell police station, said: “The residents of Bracknell can be assured that their neighbourhood policing team will continue to tackle drug related issues in the local area. “This type of criminality is not welcome in Bracknell and we are doing all we can in partnership to keep Bracknell a safe and welcoming place to live, work and visit.”

A man who escaped from a Sussex prison has been arrested in Slough. 33-year-old Nigel Carpenter was serving a sentence for armed robbery and being in possession of an imitation firearm when he absconded. He remains in police custody this afternoon. Supt Chris Shead, Local Police Area Commander for Slough, said: “I am pleased with today’s operation, which has resulted in the arrest of a wanted man. It was meticulously planned and involved a number of armed officers, supported by local officers, carrying out a warrant this morning.”

Bucks county council has admitted their gritting lorries were overwhelmed by heavy snow last night. It meant many roads in Burnham and Farnham Royal were left untreated. This morning, conditions were treacherous there and drivers were having to take extra care. Meanwhile, thousands of children have enjoyed a day off school because of the big chill. Bin collections have been suspended in Slough and the Royal Borough. Residents are being advised to leave their bins out as they will be collected in the coming days.

Police are extremely concerned for the welfare of a woman who has gone missing from Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot. 51 year old Susan Carr was last seen this morning. Susan is white, 5ft 3ins and has shoulder-length brown hair with blonde highlights. She was last seen wearing a three-quarter-length black or dark brown woolly jumper, faded blue Levi jeans, a black scarf and Ugg boots. Thousands of children across East Berkshire and South Bucks are enjoying the day off. Schools in our area have been forced to close after snow falls overnight. Heathrow Airport has not been too badly affected by the big chill. Flights were subject to delays this morning but things have returned to normal. First Great Western is operating a normal service. The Highways Agency has not ruled out further gritting on the M25, M40 and M4 tonight. A spokesperson told Time 106.6 they are monitoring conditions. Slough Borough council says its refuse and recycling bin collections will not be made today. Residents are advised to leave their bins out as they aim to collect them on Monday or Tuesday – depending on the weather conditions.

A Wraysbury man has been jailed for six years for assault. David Robert Wilden attacked a 40 year old in the village club in March. He suffered a fractured cheekbone and damage to his eye socket.

The Master Plan for the Heart of Slough project has been signed off. It paves the way for major building work to start in May next year like the removal of the Brunel roundabout and underpass. James Rowley from the Homes and Communities Agency says the transformation remains on track and on budget despite the recession. They have contributed £11,000,000 towards the cost of the project. Two men have been arrested after police carried out a drugs raid in Slough. A quantity of cannabis was seized by officers from an address in Furnival Avenue. A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a class B drug. The pair remain in police custody at this time.

A Maidenhead estate is to be transformed at a cost £26,000,000. One Housing Group has been given permission to tear down flats in Kidwells close and build a new complex of 204 homes. Development Director Alan Williams told Time 106.6 they will start relocating people after Christmas. Work will happen in stages and the scheme is due to be completed by 2015.

Police have welcomed the sentence given to two Bracknell men who robbed a bus in the town. Stephen Kent and Luke Mehmi have been jailed for a total of nearly 7 years. The pair ran alongside the bus before Kent punched the driver four times, back in August. Detective Constable Alex Humphreys says the driver was not in a position to defend himself and the pair were arrested after they were caught on CCTV.

Pinewood Shepperton - home to the James Bond and Harry Potter movies - has confirmed plans to set up a new studio in Malaysia. The deal to set up the Pinewood Malaysia film and TV facility follows the launch of a similar project in Toronto in Canada. The number of young people out of work has reached a record high. 952,000, 16 to 24 years olds found themselves without a job in the three months to October. That is a quarterly rise of 6 thousand. Officers have carried out more than 13 warrants in South Bucks, Maidenhead and Slough, since the start of December. 20 people have been arrested for a variety of offences as part of Operation Grip. For the second time this month, police are investigating after an armed robbery at a bookmakers in Slough. It happened at Corals in Chalvey Road West. The offender threatened staff with a handgun and demanded cash from the till. He stole more than a hundred pounds, pausing to say "Merry Christmas" Detectives are investigating whether this incident is linked to previous robberies at branches of Corals in the town.

No waste incinerators will be built in Surrey. The annoucement comes from the county council. Instead people will be encouraged to reuse things where they can and recycle as much as possible. Two High Wycombe brothers have been jailed for beating a man who held family members captive in one of their own homes. Munir and Tokeer Hussain beat Waled Salem in Desborough Park Road in September last year. The pair were sentenced to a total of more than 4 years behind bars for the attack. Moments earlier in the same street were the brothers lived, the victim was part of a group of at least three men who held the Hussain family at knifepoint in their own home.

A post mortem is expected to take place on the body of a man who was found in woods in Bracknell. Police were called to the scene near Jocks Lane in Priestwood after a passer by made the grim discovery. It is thought the man had been sleeping rough in the woods.

A major crime blitz by HM Revenue and Customs in Windsor and Slough has been hailed a success. During a two day operation 150,000 smuggled and counterfeit cigarettes were seized and more than 4,000 litres of beer. HM Revenue and Customs targeted corner and high street shops as well as off licences and self storage units.

TIME 106.6 EXCLUSIVE 80's icon Chesney Hawkes has cancelled a charity fundraising gig in Ascot. The singer was due to perform at Bar 1 in the town on Sunday night to raise money for the White Lodge Centre in Chertsey. They have been providing activities and opportunities for disabled people and their familes across Surrey since 1962. But Chesney Hawkes - who is also the charity's patron - says a fall in ticket sales meant they had to postpone this year's Christmas Cracker event. An Asian man has been taken to Wexham Park hospital after he tried to commit suicide in front on shoppers at Tesco in Slough. Witnesses say the man put a knife to his throat before saying "I'm going to kill myself", at the store in Wellington Street, this morning. Shoppers went to his aid with towels to stem the bleeding. The man's injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Police are investigating.

The lone female cashier at Corals in Mirador Crescent, was ordered to hand over cash while the offender pointed a gun at her. The offender is described as white, over 6ft, and of medium build. The person found dead on a railway line in Maidenhead has been named. It is Andrew Shepherd from Cox Green. The 44 year old went missing on Saturday. A post mortem is expected to be held today. British Transport police are investigating.

Adult care services in Windsor and Maidenhead are performing well. That is according to a report out today from the Care Quality Commission. But the commission says there is room for improvement. Head of Adult Services Alan Brown says one of the main challenges is around individual budgets for people using services. Bracknell and Bucks County Council were also judged to be performing well.

A Berkshire woman who pretended to be a mother of two, has been ordered to pay back £30,000 or face over a year behind bars. 44 year old Sita Dean, who lived in a £600,000 house, carried out the tax credit fraud, over a four year period. Roland Stuz from HM Revenue and Customs says it was a deliberate attack on the system.

A new war memorial could be built in the Royal Borough to remember people like Rifleman Daniel Hume, who was killed in Afghanistan in July. Slough has one of the lowest uptake rates for breast screening in the UK. Now NHS Berkshire East are hoping to change that. The trust has set up a mobile clinic at The Centre in Farnham Road, until Summer 2010, in a bid to increase the number of women being checked. A Public Health Specialist told Time 106.6 early screening is crucial in the fight against breast cancer.

A Slough driver who previously killed his friend in a car crash has been jailed following a 140 mph police chase. 25 year old Amjid Karim has been dubbed Britain's most dangerous driver with numerous motoring convictions including speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road. Officers caught Karim in a stolen car back in August after he crashed into railings and dived into a nearby pond to escape police. Karim who admitted the charges has been jailed for 20 months at Guildford Crown Court.

A Royal Marine who rugby-tackled a suicide bomber in Afghanistan has been hounoured with the Military Cross at Windsor Castle. Sergeant Noel Connolly has been presented with his bravery medal by the Queen. He saved the lives of 30 comrades when the bomber targeted their troop on a motorbike packed with 150 pounds of explosives and shrapnel last November.

The Royal Borough is warning a Bracknell Magistrates decision could have serious repercussions for the fight against knife crime. The court accepted a Windsor department's defence that a knife bought by a teenager, during a test purchase operation, was in fact a food preparation gadget under the terms of the 1988 Criminal Justice Act. Trading Standard's Manager Steve Johnson says urgent talks are being held this week to consider an appeal.

A woman has been released on police bail after she was charged with alleged sexual offences at Broadmoor hospital. 30 year old Rhoda Sibanda from Bracknell is accused of carrying out the offences while working as a care worker at the hospital betwen June and August this year. Sibanda will appear before Maidenhead Magistrates later this month.

The Royal Borough is preparing for the big freeze. Gritters will be out in force for the first time this winter as forecasters predict plummeting temperatures. All A roads and bus routes will be covered. The gritting starts at 7:30. Teams will use double the normal amounts of salt to limit the impact on key road surfaces.

A man has been charged with kidnap, child abduction and unlawful sexual intercourse after a girl went missing in Slough. The 21 year old was arrested by officers in Swansea, last Thursday. The 14 year old girl went missing in Manor Park in Slough on 21 November but was found on the same day of the arrest. A 44 year old woman arrested in connection with the investigation has been released on police bail.

Police are investigating after a knifepoint robbery in High Wycombe. The offender entered the Totteridge Road Newsagent on Saturday and threatened a member of staff with the weapon. The victim managed to pull the knife free from the man's hands. He was taken by ambulance to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where he is being treated for lacerations. A 22 year old man has been bailed until next year after he was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery.

Surrey County Council says it can save £12,000,000 by installing more energy efficient lighting. It has signed a deal with a private sector consortium to install bright white lights to replace the inefficient orange glow street lamps. In the first five years of the contract all of the county’s 89,000 lights will be upgraded.

After a man was punched and kicked while out jogging in Farnham Park, police want the public to come forward with information. The victim suffered severe injuries during the unprovoked assault, last Tuesday. The suspect's an Asian man in his mid-twenties. He is 5ft9ins and has a wiry athletic build and dark skin. He has dark hair and had stubble at the time, with an oval and thin face. He had thick eyebrows and brown eyes. He was wearing a navy blue “beanie” style bobble hat, a navy crew neck sweatshirt, tracksuit bottoms in royal blue which were cut off below the knee, and white court or tennis style trainers.”

A 49 year old man is in a critical condition at Wexham Park hospital after his car left the M4 and spun into a ditch on the hard shoulder. The collision happened on the eastbound carriageway between junction 10 and 8/9, last Friday. It involved a grey Fiat Seicento.

A greenspace site in Slough could be transformed into a massive car park in time for the 2012 Olympic Games. Under plans, 2800 spectators would leave their vehicles at Upton Court Park. A new temporary park and ride scheme comes to Windsor tomorrow. Shoppers can leave their cars at the racecourse, every weekend, in the run up to Christmas, from 9am until 6pm. Work to replace Slough's bus station starts today. The Brunel Car Park is shut to commuters this morning. Ramps at the rear of the building will be knocked down in December. Bus services are not affected though. The scheme is part of a long term vision to transform Slough at a cost of 450 million pounds.

The father of a Slough schoolgirl who died after contracting swine flu, says doctors failed to diagnose her condition. Five year old Nida Qureshi died at St Mary's Hospital, in London, earlier this month. Her father says doctors only noticed something was wrong, when she was put on a life support machine.

It is reported a man in his twenties has been arrested in connection with the Slough pushchair robbery. A mother's two year old daughter suffered mouth and head injuries, during the robbery in Shaggy Calf Lane, a week ago on Tuesday.

A man has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a woman in Windsor Great Park. Jason Robert Anthony Rogers adopted an 'Incredible Hulk' pose, growling loudly, after the attack in 2007. The 20 year old has been given a three-year community order and must attend a treatment programme. He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for five years.

Police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery at a Slough bookies. Two men burst into Coral Racing in Stoke Road on Tuesday. Staff members were threatened with a handgun. The offenders left with a sum of cash and scratch cards. One is described as 5ft 8ins, of medium build, wearing all black clothing. He spoke with a British accent. His accomplice is between 5ft 11ins and 6ft and of medium build. He wore a black jacket.

A man has been given a five year ASBO for following and staring at women in Maidenhead. 64 year old Gabriel Tabar targeted more than 30 women over a six year period. He followed his female victims around the town centre and would later appear outside their homes. His behaviour meant many of them were too scared to venture outside alone. The five year ASBO prevents Mr Tabar from confronting women or communicating with women and going near 39 schools.

450 new jobs are to be created in Slough with the opening of a new Sainbury's store. The new store will be built on the former site of the Co-op supermarket in Uxbridge Road. This week the Competition Commission agreed the sale of the land to Sainbury's after it ordered Tesco to sell it to a rival.

Members of the domestic abuse forum are handing out white ribbons and will be on hand to offer advice at the Magnet Leisure Centre in Maidenhead, today. The number of domestic abuse cases being handled by the police are increasing. Abuse co-ordinator for East Berkshire Sophie Wing-King says that is down to better reporting.

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men robbed a jeweller's shop in Ascot. The offenders forced their way into Tom French in Hermitage Parade, on Monday morning. The pair fled the scene with an quantity of jewellery in a red Ford Mondeo, driven by a third man. Staff have been left very shocked by what happened.

Police are treating a fire at a house in Slough as arson. Emergency services were called to a semi detached property in Canterbury Avenue in Manor Park, a week ago last Friday afternoon. A former Wraysbury man has been convicted of making and distributing indecent images of children. 53 year old John David Stradling's offences involving more than a 1000 pictures, happened between June 2003 and August 2007. He was given a suspended prison sentence at Reading Crown Court. He has been placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.

An Ascot man has pleaded guilty to illegally dumping nearly 200 tyres near Bourne End. Wycombe Magistrates heard how 42 year old Colin Miller was captured four times on a surveillance camera carrying out the offence, last July. He is due to be sentenced in December.

Four men charged with the production of cannabis in Maidenhead town centre have appeared in the court. Police raided a property above the Labrookes betting shop in Queen Street in June and found stockpiles of the drug. The jury were shown footage of the defendants trying to escape by jumping from a ledge on the first floor above the shop. The four men have all denied the charges against them and the trial continues.

Police are investigating after a man was robbed and assaulted in Langley. The 25 year old Asian man was set upon by a group of men on the Goodman Park Canal Path, a week ago. A motorcylist has been airlifted to Wexham Park hospital after a multi vehicle crash on the M40. Involving four cars - it happened on the Southbound carriageway at Junction 1 in Denham, this morning. The victim is being treated for serious injuries. The motorway has fully re-opened.

It has handled more than 300 million passengers since it opened 54 years go. Heathrow's Terminal 2 is closing to way for a replacement, which is expected to open in 2014. A Chalfont St Peter teenager has been jailed for four years for beating his stepfather with a baseball bat. A fight broke out between the two in Lovell Road in June last year. The victim suffered a broken arm, four broken ribs and a puntured lung. The 17 year old was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent at Aylesbury Crown Court.

The Royal Borough is urging the Berkshire Fire Authority to keep Windsor Firestation open 24 hours a day. It believes there is still time to reverse the decision to shut the station at night. The council's bid to run its own fire and rescue service was dashed by the Local Government Association on Friday, who felt the service would be too small to be viable. That is something the council denies.

A carjacker has been found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to a mother of four who was run over by her own car. Caroline Johnson is still in a wheelchair after Kevin Richardson stole her Citreon Picasso as she scraped ice from the windscreen. It happened in Langley in Berkshire last December. Richardson dragged Mrs Johnson 20-metres down the road, causing her serious injuries.

A jury at Reading Crown Court have retired to consider their vedict in the Caroline Johnson case. Mrs Johnson was scraping ice from the windscreen of her car in Langley last December, when a when a man and a woman stole the vehicle. 34 year old Kevin Richardson and 37 year old Karen Napper from Slough, have admitted aggravated vehicle taking. At Reading Crown Court, Mr Richardson denies causing GBH with intent.

The safety of her son was the only thing on Caroline Johnson's mind before she was dragged underneath her car, she has told a court. Mrs Johnson was scraping ice from the windscreen of her Citroean Picasso in Langley last December before taking her son Jason to school. The 46 year old was pushed out of the way by Kevin Richardson who lept into the drivers seat while Karen Napper got into the back. Richardson has pleaded guilty to a range of offences but denies another charge of causing GBH with intent. Napper has admitted aggravated vehicle taking and she will return to court for sentencing.

A man has pleaded guilty to siphoning off more than £3,000,000, from the head office of Toys R Us in Maidenhead. Paul Hopes stole the money, while he worked as a manager in Vanwalls Business Park. The 58 year old transferred the money between June 2006 and November 2008. The father of two is due to be sentenced in December after a psychatric report has been carried out.

The body of a Maidenhead man shot dead in a Texas bar has been repatriated. 28 year old Thomas Reeve was killed when a gunman entered a bar in Amarillo. A funeral date will be confirmed once his body has been released by the Berkshire coroner.

A Slough schoolgirl has died in hospital after contracting swine flu. NHS Berkshire East says the girl died in St Mary's hospital in London, on Wednesday, last week. The trust is working with the Thames Valley Health Protection Unit and the "relevant local authority" to offer support and advice. It extended its sympathies to "the child's family, friends, school and community at this time". The girl was in the reception class at James Elliman Primary School. A council spokesperson says they are providing support to pupils, parents and staff.

A woman has pleaded guilty to being involved in a Slough carjacking in which a mother was run over. Karen Napper leapt into the Citroen Picasso as Caroline Johnson scraped ice from her windscreen in Langley, last December. She is still in a wheelchair because of her injuries. Napper admitted aggravated vehicle taking.

A man from Chalfont St Peter has been jailed for two and a half years for robbing a taxi driver in Iver Heath. 20 year old Brady Colin Charles Hickman assaulted the driver, in what police say was a "violent and unprovoked attack", in September.

Shanly Homes have asked the Royal Borough council if they can speed up the decontamination of Badnells Pit in Maidenhead. They want to increase lorry movements to no more than 300 per day. A planning application currently restricts the number of vehicles to 200 per day. Lead member for planning, Cllr Alison Knight says measures have been put in place to make sure the remediation works are safe, before 400 new homes are built on the former waste dump.

Police are investigating after a robbery in High Wycombe. The victim was delivering scratch cards in Tenzing Drive, when she was approached by two men from behind, on Monday night. One of the men put his hands around the woman's face, while the other took her bag.

1 point 5 million pounds. That is what cannabis taken off Bracknell's streets since March has been valued at. During that time, seven cannabis factories have been shut. Police say all their successes have been down to information from the public.

The number of people claiming job seekers allowance is falling in Bucks. Numbers fell by 258 in October to just over 7100 according to new figures. Chairman of the Bucks Economic and Learning Partnership Alex Pratt says it is good news.

An investigation has been launched after two seperate fires which started in a student flat in Egham. They happened on Monday and Tuesday afternoon in Rusham Avenue. The students from Royal Holloway college weren't injured in the fires.

Windsor police and their partners have shut down a crack house using the Anti- Social Behaviour Act 2003, for the first time. An order to close down the property in Manor Road in Dedworth was granted at court yesterday. The property will remain boarded up for three months and anyone caught inside will be arrested.

A Slough man has been jailed for 8 years for killing a father of two in a car crash. 28 year old Gurpreet Dhillon had been taking drinking and taking cocaine before he got behind the wheel of his Jaguar XK convertible, in September last year. He lost control of the car which crashed into a roundabout in Essex before flipping over. The passenger - Tony Proctor - Dhillon's business associate - suffered severe injuires and later died in hospital. Chelmsford Crown Court heard how Mr Dhillon had lied to parademics moments after the crash by claiming he was not the driver.

Police are investigating a Slough robbery that left a 2 year old girl with mouth and head injuries. A mother was taking her children to nursery, when she was approached by a man, as she was walking down an alleyway between Borderside and Shaggy Calf Lane, yesterday. The offender tried to grab the 28 year old's handbag which was hanging on a pushchair. The offender then grabbed the mother's purse and keys and ran off.

Slough bus passengers are being told that services will not be affected by the start of a multi million scheme to transform the town. The council says work to replace the Brunel Bus station is to start next week. The car park will be shut from the 27 of November. Then ramps at the rear of the building will be knocked down at the begining of December.

Travelodge is to create 38 new jobs in High Wycombe. The hotel chain is moving into the area with a new 120 bedroom hotel in Octagon Parade, opposite the Eden shopping centre. The High Wycombe Travelodge is 1 of 9 new hotels announced by the company, as part of a £47,000,000 investment programme.

A woman has been released on police bail after she was arrested in connection with a Bracknell collision. The 46 year old driving a blue Porsche Boxster which collided with a silver Vauxhall Vextra on the Twn Bridges roundabout, a week ago. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Illegal consignments of food have been found in Slough. The council's environmental health team discovered large tins of dried fish, dried meat and curry powder at the Enhanced Remote Transit Shed, on Wednesday last week. The team spent two hours at the site and the items have been destroyed.

Time 106.6 has been speaking to the police commander for South Bucks. Chief Inspector Paul Cook says he has two major concerns at the moment. One, is the small minority of criminals that cause police problems. The other concern is the small minority of people who believe it is not their responsibilty to look after their own property.

A South Bucks Theatre Company are through to the finals of a competition for national lottery funding. Made up of actors who have learning disabilities, Friendly Bombs want to put on performance of the Tempest, for people who are often unable to see live theatre. Director Ted Dutton says the play will be interactive. For all this to happen, you need to pick up the telephone on the 24 November and dial a special number, which will be revealed on the day.

Windsor and Maidenhead's top cop says more needs to be done to get criminals off hard drugs. Superintendent Tim De Meyer says that would help in the fight against car crime. There has been a slight increase in offences this year after falls in previous years. Tim says police will continue to do their job but they need help from their partners.

Should Upper Peascod Street in Windsor become a no go area for traffic? That is the question being asked as part of a public consultation. Some believe it would help increase trade. The new Extend Centre in Smith Lane will cater for children with learning difficulties or disabilities. Siona Binge from the disabled children's team says it will mean parents no longer have to travel to Maidenhead to the Magnet Leisure Centre to use the sensory room there.

Two teenagers have been sentenced in connection with robberies in Windsor town centre. The victims had their mobile phones stolen and were robbed of cash, in Alexandra Gardens and Windsor Royal Station in February 2008. 20 year old Jamil Khan has been given three years in a young offenders institute. A 16 year old has been given an eigth month detention order.

50 jobs are being axed in Slough. Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer says the losses at it's Bath Road factory, are part of plans to decrease costs. It is reducing the number of scientists by 15 per cent after buying out a rival firm earlier this year.

Police are investigating after a 13 year old boy was assaulted in Sunningdale. The teenager was kicking fallen leaves in Devenish Road, when a white van pulled up, on 4 November. The driver pushed the teenager against a wall and then drove off.

Four-time Olympic rowing champion Sir Matthew Pinsent has officially opened the Langley Academy. The 23 million pound school is set to become a centre of excellence for sport, with a focus on cricket and rowing. Matthew is hoping some of the pupils will go onto be Olympic champions. Director of Rowing at the Academy Andy Homes shares the same goal. The Academy is also the first school in the country to specialise in museum based learning. So pupils use artefacts during science and maths lessons to aid their learning. It is an idea imported from New York. The Academy has no hidden corridors to reduce the potential for bullying. Pupils are also encouraged to think about the school's impact on the environment.

A civic service has taken place in Maidenhead to mark Armistice Day. Outside the Town Hall, a ceremonial canon was fired before 11. The Last Post was then played before a two minute silence. Hundreds of people gathered on the pavement along St Ives Road to pay tribute to those who have died in conflict. Among them, veterans of the Second World War. As the death toll mounts in Afghanistan, President of the Maidenhead branch of the Royal British Legion, Arnold Harris, believes the war cannot be won. Children from the Patchwork Montessori nursery spent time at the war memorial. Manager Nicky Weston told Time 106.6, it is important they remember too.

Two failed asylum seekers have been arrested during a raid by the UK Border Agency in Slough. Officers raided Chef in a Box on the Poyle Industrial Estate in Colnbrook today. The pair now face deportation and the catering company faces a hefty fine.

A Slough man has been prosecuted after hundreds of counterfiet DVDs were seized from his shop. Trading Standards officers visited Zafar Khan's Sam's World Travel store in January. They uncovered 845 fake DVDs - the titles were mainly Bollywood. Khan has been given a community service order and ordered to pay costs of £2,000. The council says the sale of fake DVDs can fund other forms of criminal activity like drugs and prostitution.

A Slough man has been jailed for 5 years after been found guilty of a string of bomb hoaxes. Salmon Mukaty told emergency operators and the police in March that passengers planned to board planes carrying suicide materials. The 27 year old's reports forced the closure of Leeds Bradford Airport and put three major airports on red alert. The head of the South East Counter Terrorism Unit, Det Ch Supt George Turner, hopes the five year sentence given to Mr Mukaty, will send out a clear message, that hoax calls will not be tolerated.

Police are investigating after a Staines woman was robbed at knifepoint. The 24 year old was attacked while she was getting into her car in De Haviiland Way in Stanwell, last Thursday night. The offender forced the victim to hand over her blue mobile phone and a silver handbag containing cash. Police have carried out house to house enquiries and continue to review CCTV footage.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was punched in the face in Staines. The unprovoked assault happened at the junction of Laleham Road and Commercial Road, last Monday. The 16 year old girl suffered a fractured jaw after a man followed her as she was walking away from the town centre. The offender is described as white, in his late teens of medium build and around 5 ft 8 inches tall.

A Maidenhead father-of-one killed during a robbery at a bar in Amarillo in Texas was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” That from the parents of Thomas Reeve who was on a month-long road trip, with two friends, from San Francisco to Florida when the tragedy happened shortly before 11pm on Thursday. The 28-year-old had only planned a brief stop in Amarillo because of the hit song by Tony Christie. Mr Reeve died at Northwest Texas hospital and was taken to the nearby town of Lubbock for a post-mortem. He leaves behind a nine month old daughter called Tabitha. In a statement his family said: “He loved life, was always happy and optimistic about the future. He was generous, kind and always saw the best in everyone he met. He adored his daughter and was a devoted father.” Mr Reeve, who had lived in Maidenhead all his life, had recently become the manager of a watch shop in the town. A 48-year-old man was also shot in the hand and a woman was sexually assaulted during the incident. A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder by police after he was arrested at a truck stop following a 17 hour man hunt. US media reports name him as Ray Carlos Cisneros.

Crime continues to fall in South Bucks - the area's police commander wants the public's help to him keep it that way. Serious aquisitive crime - like auto crime and burglaries - are down 20 per cent this year, when compared to the same period last year. Youngsters across Slough are to be taught about the dangers of carrying knives today. Pupils at Beechwood will see a production of Boy X, which aims to raise awareness about the consequences of carrying blades. A failed asylum seeker who used a counterfiet passport to get a job has been jailed for over a year. Valentine Suresh Kumar Victor, was arrested during an immigration raid, at the Heathrow Bakery in Iver, in October. The Sri Lankan will be deported at the end of his sentence.

Some good news for rail passengers - First Great Western has launched a new rush hour service from London to Maidenhead. The 1751 commuter train now stops at the town, meaning you can get back from the capital in less than 20 minutes. The company says they were responding to demand. But the MP for Maidenhead, Theresa May still believes First Great Western needs to improve it's rush hour services.

A Sandhurst father has been spared jail after police found cannabis at his family home. 23 year old Neil Ayres was warned that if he carried on taking drugs he would not see his children growing up. Mr Ayres pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply at Guildford Crown Court.

An 11 year old boy has been seriously injured in a road collision in Maidenhead. The victim was knocked down in Oaken Grove this morning. A silver Toyota RAV 4 was involved. The boy is being treated at the John Radcliff Hospital in Oxford. Police say the circumstances of the collision are currently under investigation.

Police are investigating after a man was left with a broken leg in a "completely unprovoked attack" in Slough. The 49 year old victim was set upon by a gang of six teenagers in Villiers Road, just over a week ago. He was knocked off his bike, punched in the head and face, before he managed to escape. The man received treatment at Wexham Park hospital and has since been discharged.

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was hit by a white van that was being pursued by a police car in High Wycombe. The van collided with the pedestrian opposite Marks and Spencer in Oxford Road, yesterday. Officers immediately stopped to help the man and condolences have been sent to the family. It is believed two people were in the van. They are suspected of involvement in a collision in the Deeds Grove area. Ch Insp Colin Seaton, Wycombe's Deputy Commander says the matter has now been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Maidenhead United boss Johnson Hippolyte has denied reports he has contracted swine flu. Hippolyte told Time 106.6, his wife has got the virus although he is feeling unwell. Hippolyte has also revealed that none of his players have yet to come down with swine flu. However, he will be keeping his distance at training tonight, as a precaution.

Southern Electric is hoping the lights stay on in East Berkshire and South Bucks tonight. It is worried about people letting off fireworks or lighting bonfires near substations and overhead lines. Bracknell Forest Council has imposed a cap on new taxi licences. The move has been welcomed by the Borough's Licensed Taxi Forum, who had been pushing for the freeze. Members warned that if new licences were issued, they would have had to increase their fares.

The Slough Jets are to dedicate a game to help a local charity that is being affected by the recession. Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East is facing funding cuts at a time when more older people are using it's services. Chief Executive Tracey Morgan says £2 from every ticket sold on Saturday 28 November will go to the charity. The Slough Ice Arena will open at 5:30pm with a Face-Off (Game Start) at 6:30pm. After the game, from around 8:30pm till 11pm, ice skating will be free for everyone who bough tickets to the game.

The man is white, in his late teens to early twenties and was wearing dark clothing. He drove off towards Slough in a small black car.

Police are investigating after an attempted robbery at a post office in Colnbrook. An armed man entered the building in Park Street last Friday. He demanded staff put money in a rucksack he was carrying. When the shopkeeper refused and pressed the alarm the robber left empty-handed. The offender is a white man, about 6ft, and of medium build. Two teams of Surrey County council workers have played the longest five-a-side football match in history. Nearly 900 goals were scored during the 27 hour game. The workers broke the previous record for the longest five-a-side match by one hour and 15 minutes. They are now waiting to have the mammoth effort officially recognised by Guiness World Records.

Massive plans to regenerate West Drayton, have been submitted. Drayton Garden Village would be built on the 32 acre former National Air Traffic Services site in Porters Way. Developers are promising to create new homes, a medical centre, children's play facilities and avenues lined with trees.
